本田うり

どんな野菜？

まず、まくわ瓜には大きく分けて「金まくわ」と「銀まくわ」があり、黄色いまくわ瓜を「金まくわ」、緑の果皮に縞のあるものを「銀まくわ」と呼ばれています。

本田うりは、江戸の頃、葛飾区の中川流域から水元にかけて栽培された本田（ほんでん）瓜は、銀まくわの代表格です。

大振りで甘みは少ないが、日持ちが良いことからよく売れたという。甘いものが少なかった時代、ジューシーなまくわ瓜は水菓子と言われ、三代将軍徳川家光も大好物でした。
